As the poorest country in the EU,
Bulgaria has an ailing healthcare system which also hurts the youngest in need
- the newborns and kids. Sadly, Bulgaria is among the top three European countries with the highest death rate among newborns. The Pirogov Hospital is the major institution for
active treatment and emergency medicine, located in the capital city of Sofia.
Prof.Dr. Rossen Drebov, the Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, has
informed us that the new building for ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
and operating theaters were recently completed, but there is currently no money for operating tables,
lamps and apparatuses for anesthesia, monitors, surgical instruments, and other basic
equipment (including for the newborns). We hope you will make a difference!
